Songs: What I know

by Gerardine Baugh

Created on: February 05, 2009

When I was three, my dad told me to get my rear in gear

He said I was to put my toys away

And not say no' so loud

Its hard when your so young and short

No one will listen, in order to get my words across

I pouted and stamped I whined and sniffled

He rubbed his bristly beard and said

"Yes! I believe you are right"

He said with a smile, then

his voice barely a whisper he ordered, "get to it!"

I asked in that high pitch voice, "why?"

His eyebrows raised and he smiled just slightly,

He told me, one day you'll learn, because

You don't know nothin'

What I know, is I don't know nothin'

I thought I knew everything

How the world worked

The reason why I felt happy or sad

How to fix a car, a bike, or the radio or a broken heart

What I know is, I don't know nothin'

It's easy to be told how much you don't know

When you have a report card to check

But as we get older its hard to figure out

Because so many people pretend

They stand there and nod

Tap their chin as they think

"Yes! I believe you are right"

They have no idea, but won't admit they what they know, is nothin'

"Interesting idea!" What they really mean is, "I don't care."

I wish they would just say that

But when their jobs are on the line

It is so much better to be sublime

Nod and hope no one asks you a question

Do only twenty percent of your job, nod and walk away, because

What I know, is I don't know nothin'

What I know, is I don't know nothin'

I thought I knew everything

How the world worked

The reason why I felt happy or sad

How to fix a car, a bike, or the radio or a broken heart

What I know is, I don't know nothin'

When love comes in the picture,

The best way to handle little differences of opinion

Is stand and nod, tap your chin and say

"Yes! I believe you are right"

When the love of your life is set for a fight

It will have her stumble for a second

Giving you the time to run out the door

Pretending to care what she says

to avoid that inevitable struggle

When she catches you, cause she will you know

Just remember to tell her your sorry, because

what I know, is I don't know nothin'

What I know, is I don't know nothin'

I thought I knew everything

How the world worked

The reason why I felt happy or sad

How to fix a car, a bike, or the radio or a broken heart

What I know is, I don't know nothin'

My dad told me years ago

Never let her see you nervous

Or catch on to your hiding place

Remember he said , handle only one

Two will kill you, the one you have will stammer

Whine and sniffle, just like you did when you were three years old

Give up the illusion of control, hand it back to her

Tell her without sarcasm

"Yes! I believe you are right"

Then admit that,

You don't know what' you would do with out her, because

What you know, is you don't know nothin'

What I know, is I don't know nothin'

I thought I knew everything

How the world worked

The reason why I felt happy or sad

How to fix a car, a bike, or the radio or a broken heart

What I know is, I don't know nothin'

Just tell me! How many people out there really listen when I speak?
