Weight training provides physical benefits for people of all ages, including older people who are still healthy enough for moderate aerobic activity.
The first benefit is an increase in muscle mass, which in turn helps the body reduce fat, prevent bodily injury, and perform daily tasks. And when you can lift heavier objects, you can remain active, independent and happy.
Adding weight to your exercise routines helps to improve aerobic benefits, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease and blood pressure problems.
Lastly, moderate weight training can help older people to keep their joints healthy and pain free. The symptoms of arthritis can be greatly reduced by regular, doctor-monitored aerobic and weight training.
The bottom line is that weight training can be beneficial for every body, provided that you have your doctor's approval!
