Regardless of the amount of time you leave the car, maturity of the child, or the apparent safety of the environment, it is never a good idea to leave a child alone in a vehicle. We all lead such busy lives running here and there that it is sometimes tempting to quickly "run in" somewhere just to save time. The possible consequences far outweigh the time savings.

During warm weather months the temperature inside a vehicle rises dramatically. We have all heard the stories of children being left at stores, casinos, and elsewhere who die from heat exposure. The same can be said during cold weather when someone "runs in" somewhere not realizing they have locked the door with the engine running.
Many children who have seen other people drive think it's cool to imitate the adults. The next thing you know the car is in gear.

For those who prey upon others, unattended children are a very tempting target. It may seem a stretch but parking lots and other areas frequented by the public provide such people with unnecessary opportunities. A lttle motivation on your part could prevent a lifetime of heartache.

If a child is left in a vehicle alone they can become frustrated due to the lack of attention. This is a perfect motivator for them to look for things to do which can lead to other problems. Injury, poisoning, or broken items could result.

Though it is sometimes challenging, it is best to plan your trips wisely and think of your children's safety first.
