Snowflake Festival, Klamath Falls, OR

Snowflake festival is a weeklong celebration in Klamath Falls OR, a perfect way to kick off winter holidays during December. This beautiful scenic town is located in southern Oregon just east of Cascade Mountains. With more than 300 days of sunny skies every year it is fondly called "City of Sunshine" in Oregon. The SNOWFLAKE FESTIVAL was started by the "Howards" a local family almost 25 years back.




If you are planning to visit the region around Thanks giving or early Christmas holidays you are in luck, because that's when the city of Klamath Falls holds the Snowflake festival to begin the holiday season with a bang. In the year 2009 it is scheduled to start on December 6. The Snowflake festival in Klamath Falls is a great fun filled holiday event fit for all ages and all interests.




Full of various events including lighting of the Christmas tree, an amazing holiday parade, food stalls, shopping, and much more, it is great fun for everyone in family. It's also a wonderful event to meet new people, or go on a romantic date.




Take a look at these activities and events scheduled during the snowflake festival.




1. Various contests

There are many contests and activities geared towards the grown ups but the town of Klamath has not neglected the children. There are many contests that they can also take part in.

- The contests start off with the various an Essay writing contest, followed by Coloring Contest and a Teen Pageant.

- The Ginger bread house contest and display are held at Ross Ragland Theater until the end of the festival.




2. Tree Lighting ceremony

The Tree lighting ceremony at Veteran's Park is organized by the city administration in downtown Klamath Falls. It is followed by a visit from Santa and the elves, and Christmas caroling by the natives. Kids get to meet Buddy the Panda at the mayor's office.




3. Snowflake Ball

This extravagant event with a different theme each year is held at the Egyptian Plaza. Last year the theme was silver bells, but it was cancelled due to inclement weather. This year's theme will be soon announced on the website.




4. Snowflake Festival Annual Parade

Last year more than 30, beautifully designed, decorated and dazzlingly lighted floats from all around southern Oregon participated in this spectacular event. It also includes performances by marching bands, and gymnasts. Last year some enthusiast also braved the cold weather in their thin shirts and shorts during THE SNOWFLAKE RUN held at the same time.
