With hundreds of writer's contributing to Helium on a regular basis, it's clear that there must be some benefit to the contributor. With thousands of articles and more being added every day, Helium is constantly growing. What provokes writers to add to Helium's database every day?
YOU GET PRACTICE
For anyone who has a passion for writing, Helium provides room for growth. With the rating system, a writer has a very accurate gauge of how their work is perceived. There is no limit to how much work you can produce, and for that reason a writer can choose to develop their skills as often as they want. You can review your articles to see how each is being rated against your peers, and if the results come out poorly you are free to do modifications to see if you can improve on your work. Over time, this will have a positive effect on a writer's ability.
YOU GET PAID
Nobody wants to do something for nothing. Writing is no exception. Helium has a generous pay structure that rewards the top quality writer's for contributing. The more you contribute, the more you make. If you are dedicated enough you can end up making thousands of dollars with Helium. For most, this won't be the primary reason for writing, but it never hurts.
You can check out the success stories forum in the Helium community for examples of some very high earnings.
YOUR WORK GETS READ
Knowing that something you have written is available for millions to read can be exciting. If you have a particular article that is earning more than others, you know that it has become quite popular. There is a sense of pride associated with knowing that people enjoy your work. Why else do we write?
PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES
If you contribute to the marketplace, you work can actually get printed in a "legitimate" magazine. If this happens, it allows for the start of a true portfolio. A portfolio allows writers to apply for more mainstream freelance jobs. Many writers have used Helium as a springboard for even greater opportunities.
Also, through the marketplace, it is possible for a writer to become recognized by a print publication, and be asked to become a regular contributor. This is less common, but has been known to happen.
YOU ENJOY IT
This is a commonly overlooked aspect to writing for Helium. If you aren't having fun, no other benefit can make it worth your time. It can be easy to get caught up in all the other benefits, but sometimes you need to take a step back and simply just enjoy writing.
It's a hobby for some, a stress reliever for others. Regardless of your motivations, remember, to always have FUN!
