THE LONGING

Listen to the leaves rustling

a cold wind blowing through;

another winter day is here

and I'm still without you.

my mind goes back a year ago

you walked into the room;

you smiled at me and said hello

but you were gone too soon.

you never came this way again,

you left me on my own

i really thought i was your friend,

you threw me quite a bone.

though my heart is shattered,

I keep my distance, dear

to you i never mattered

you never let me near.

you'd think this would stop desire

and the longing for you i feel,

but it just fans the fire

my love for you is real.

and i just walk in silence

piles of leaves i kick away,

they scatter all around me-

how i long to see your face.
