Crater Lake National Park is a wonderful and beautiful place to visit. Visitors come from around the world to see one of Oregon's most scenic parks. Crater Lake is not alone in this high wilderness area, Diamond Lake is only a couple miles away. With all the activities available in this area it is not a problem to understand why so many come to the area every year. These activities include skiing, snow boarding, snowmobiling, hiking, fishing, boating, camping, hunting, mushroom picking except in the park itself and so on.
Depending on what you can afford and what activities you have in mind, there are hand full of motels and resorts for you to choose from. And what season it is in, due to the north entrance to Crater Lake being closed for the winter. The south entrance is open all year.
Historic Crater Lake Lodge is the only lodging to be found within the park itself and features 71 rooms. It is open from May to mid October.
The Cabins at Mazama Village is located 7 miles from Crater Lake. Rustic cabins with no tv, a/c, or phones. Mazama village also has a campground that accommodates both tents and R.V.s.. Its open season varies little from Crater Lake so make sure you call ahead and verify.
For more information on Crater Lake and Mazama Village you can visit www.craterlakelodges.com.
Diamond Lake Resort is all so a great near by lodge to stay at. Located on and over looking Diamond Lake. Which is great all year for different activities. More information here http://www.diamondlake.net/.
Whispering Pines Motel and Market is located less than 20 miles away from both Crater and Diamond Lake at the hwy 138 and hwy 97 junction and is a great place to stay if you're a little more budget minded, at about half the cost of the resorts. Near the end of 2008 the motel has obtained new owners and have been turning the place around. It features is own little market with drinks, sandwiches, canned goods, ice cream. There is also satellite tv and a small fridge in every room. Across the street is a liquor store and and the Diamond Lake Junction cafe. For more information on the motel please go to www.whisperingpinesmotel.org.
Also another 10 miles north of the Whispering Pines Motel on hwy 97 is the town of Chemult, OR. Small town with a Pilot truck stop and a couple more hotels, The Feather Bed, The Chalet and the Dawson House Lodge. Whispering Pines Motel would be my preference of where to stay. Its not right on the lakes but your only a short drive away and the money you save by staying there can go back in to your play money to spend on any of the local attractions.
