St. Valentine's Day February 14, has been celebrated for centuries, it goes back to 498 A.D the time of the martyrs. Valentine's Day is celebrated by people all over the world. It is not only celebrated by lovers, but friends, and family. February 14, is mostly known as the day of romance. Lovers embrace this day, for it only comes once a year. Valentine's Day is the 2nd most celebrated holiday, Christmas being the 1st.
People who are in love express their feelings more during Valentine's Day through flowers, Valentine cards, gifts,and romantic dinners. Over one billion Valentine cards are sent to someone each year. Some don't buy Valentine cards, but make them on their own with special words that come from the heart, and decorate the card with more meaning.
In the United States alone men and women send gifts, roses, chocolates, and jewelry, during this special day of love. Most men send these gifts to their significant others to their work place. Women reminisce throughout the day on whose husband, or boyfriend spent the most on them. Men pamper their women in diamonds, they shower them with a spa day, and it doesn't end their, it goes through the night with a movie and dinner.
Schools and teachers also get into the spirit of Valentine's Day. Teachers help students decorate their classrooms, bags or boxes are decorated with red, pink and white hearts. Students and teachers also exchange Valentine cards and sweets.
Denmark and Norway celebrate Valentine's Day with a romantic dinner. Some lovers give one single red rose to their loved one, or they send a Valentine card to their secret admirer. Guatemala celebrates this day with their loved ones and with their friends. They exchange gifts to each other, like flowers, jewelry, and Valentine cards. Japanese woman are obligated to give chocolates to male co-workers. Woman in Japan don't receive anything, until the following month March 14. In China, only the men give chocolates to women. Canada, France, Mexico also celebrate the same way the United States celebrate Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day is celebrated from the United States, to Canada, France, Australia, Japan, Mexico and the U.K. It does not matter what is given, or how it is celbrated, every one around the world has been celebrating this wonderful day from then to now. It is the day of purification and love.
