What one should do in preparation for the second coming of Christ depends on whether one choose eternal life or eternal damnation. The Scriptures are clear as to what the end will be for both. It is not God's Will that any of us perish, but to come to an understanding of His Word. "For God so loved the World that He gave His only begotton Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16)."
For those who do not accept God's free gift of Salvation, then no preparation is needed. You can continue to fulfill the lust of the flesh. The Bible (Galation 5:19-21) tells us that "The works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings,...those which do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God." Those who reject God, will be thrown into a furnace of fire. They will burn for ever and ever. However, there is hope for the unsaved at this moment. Do not wait; accept God's gift of Salvation today, tomorrow may be to late.
For those of us who accept God's free gift of eternal life, the first step in preparation for the second coming of Jesus would be to confess your sins, repent, ask for forgiveness and be baptized in the name of the Lord. We cannot stop there. We must study the Word and make it a part of our daily life. We must put on the whole Armor of God and keep it on continually in order to be able to endure until the end (read Ephesian 6:11-18). It is important that we are rooted in His Word. We need to pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Matthew 24:24 tells us that "false Christs and false prophets will rise and show great sign and wonder to deceive, if possible, even the elect." Matthew 24:12-13 says "because lawless will abound, the love of many will grow cold , but he who endures to the end shall be saved." Being rooted in the Word will be our weapon against the wiles of Satan in the last days.
There are already false Christs, prophets, teachers, etc. in the world today. Many have already predicted the exact date of Jesus return. For those who are waiting because you believe these predictions, do not be deceived into thinking you have time. No one know the exact time of Jesus second coming. The Bible says not even the angels know. Only God knows the exact day and hour of Jesus return. He may come at a time when we least expect Him to come. That is why we must be ready at any given moment.
