Things to do in Pittsburgh, PA during the summer

Ah, Summer in Pittsburgh. No more ice jams, the weather is warm and Point State Park is the place to be. It's a great time to get out, enjoy the weather, get together with friends and family and have a good time.

In the Summer, that which was closed is now open. Take, for instance, Kennywood Park. It's almost impossible to be in Pittsburgh in the Summer and not visit Kennywood Park. Kennywood is a National Historic Landmark, located in West Mifflin and is as much a part of Pittsburgh as Iron City Beer, the Steelers or the Pirates. Get your all day Funpass for fun on the Log Jammer, the Jack Rabbit or the Pit Fall. The park is family-friendly, boasting Kiddieland (the amusement park for little ones) and several picnic and gaming areas. The park opens in May. Operating hours are 10:30am (rides open at 11:00am) until 10:00 pm. Call the park or visit www.kennywood.com for details.

Looking for something to do in June, then visit the Three Rivers Arts festival. The mission of the Three Rivers Arts Festival is to connect the community to the arts and what a fantastic job they do. Arts, crafts, food and fun, there's a little bit of something for everyone. For more info: www.artsfestival.net

Is the romantic side of you emerging, want a way to impress your sweetie in Pittsburgh during the Summer? Then take her to the VIP section at the Loews movie theatre. Make your romantic evening more memorable at Loews where you can enjoy dinner and a movie in the VIP section. Sit, chat and enjoy one another's company, then head on over to the theatre (there's private entrance for VIP's).http://www.moviewatcher.com/theatres/theatre_ information.jsp?unit=2587 for details.

Prefer to be outdoors? There's nothing like the incline at night. A great view of the city and then a walk along Mount Washington make this a night to remember. You and that special someone will be mesmerized by the lights of the city and the warm night air. It's heaven on earth as you walk hand in hand enjoying the evening.www.portauthority.org/PAAC/CustomerInfo/Incl ines/tabid/119/Default.aspx for info.

Can't stand the summer heat? Go splish, splashin' at Pittsburgh's Sandcastle Water Park, located in the Homestead section of Pittsburgh near the Loews movie theatre. Cool of with a Whitewater Pass, splash all day (11am-6pm) starting in June. Stick around after 6 to enjoy the Sandbar, dive-in movies or Saturday night swim. Call the park or visit the website -http://www.sandcastlewaterpark.com -for details.
