The best thing about being single is having the ability to go out with friends, meet new people and have fun- on your own terms. The easiest way to live the single life is to live it in an environment that gives you a variety of options. Living in Michigan can be a great experience for a single, but not if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere; in a city with one bar frequented by the same people every night. Unfortunately, for Michiganders, there is not that "Sex and the City" vibe where you can go out in daring outfits and pick up men in every episode. There just is not a New York equivalent in Michigan. However, there are cities where young, hip socialites dwell and where single life is embraced, practiced and enjoyed.

Flourishing in boutiques, theaters, and restaurants, Royal Oak attracts a number of trendy, singles to live, work and play. With a number of lofts, apartments and condos, you will get the city-living vibe in a smaller setting. Alternative and vintage clothing stores help you create your own style, while a number of salons and spas keep you looking great. Filled with art galleries, fitness centers, bars, comedy clubs and cocktail lounges, Royal Oak is a place that makes it easy to meet people no matter what your social taste. This metro-Detroit location is also close to many other popular cities like Birmingham, Ferndale and Troy.

Grand Rapids presents a number of activities for the liveliest single. A number of golf clubs, museums, a rock climbing center and Michigan's largest tropical conservatory make this a great place to live no matter what season. Frequented bars like Founders Taproom and Fanagan's provide a promising night out with friends. Grand Rapids also has numerous events throughout the year, including the success of the first annual New Years ball drop, at which the Plain White T's performed and thousands of people welcomed 2009.

If you are ready to mingle, you will have your pick most Saturdays during football season in Ann Arbor. Home of the Big House, the city brings in hundreds of thousands of football fans and tailgating tourists. A college town, Ann Arbor is filled with single students filling the many trendy bars in order to take a break from their studies. Looking for a successful, driven and educated significant other? Singles have a selection of University of Michigan medical and law school students, who also live in the area.
