Reduce US imports by buying American made products

Why would any patriotic American encourage unemployment by sending their dollars out of the country? The United States of America, for many decades, has been recognized globally as "The Arsenal of Democracy". This phrase umbrella's a large scope, and each element of the meaning takes unique analysis. On the surface, it refers to the abilities of manufacturing power in the United States of America to pour out the massive quantities of aircraft, tanks, jeeps and other war materiel required to defeat the Global Fascist threats of World War II.

Companies around the country (with supplier support from neighbors like Canada; Detroit's Southern neighbor) converted from manufacturing consumer goods such as cars, trains, washers, etc to providing for the needs of the Allied forces around the globe. Even though most recent terrorists (since the years of JFK and the Cold War) have entered the United States through Canada, we hold no grudge against the people or the nation, Eh?

In today's GWOT (Global War On Terror) world, the United States engenders the whole range of emotions from Love to Hate, and every shade in between. Even in Nations and people who espouse hatred, signs of envy for certain aspects of American life creep in. Countries ban 'Western' clothing, music and publications - but if there was no demand for them amongst their people, why would a ban be required? The hypocrisy of these situations serves as the proof of the argument that the US is still recognized as the bastion of Freedom shining bright is this murky storm of the new millennium.

The basket-weave of international commerce has fueled the argument regarding people in the US favoring domestic products over imports complex; heightened even more by the often-difficult task of simply categorizing products based on their percentage of content and other corporate revenue path explorations. Many countries lack something known as 'National Pride' - I say this after no small amount of international travel and discussion on the subject with people from those countries. Until very recently from a historical sense, we citizens of The United States of America were globally recognized as leaders in Freedom; while many other countries held their flags lower because of shame over a war or oppression their country had a role in. Even though there have been recent instances where perhaps-misguided American Patriots crossed lines which should have been held sacred; the American People differentiate "Our Nation" from "Our Current Government" and wave our flag with pride.

Many Trade and Import agreements exist for the convenience of Businesses and Corporations; and many of those agreements exist because paid Lobbyists tampered with the legitimate functioning of the US Government. Many Nations around the globe who wish the American way of life tremendous harm utilize trade imbalance and technical espionage as a weapon in their quest to destroy us. If the nations of the world who are, or wish to be, Free like us want our assistance, protection and friendship; then we must stand strong with their support in order to serve that charge. If this means that steps must be taken to strengthen our manufacturing and commercial might, then perhaps this is a price those other nations must pay for that protection of their Freedom.
