The paranormal is real. There are so many things in this world that cannot be explained. Stories of ghosts, monsters, and lights in the sky have littered the history of the world. Some things have been explained away as caused by something natural. However, there are a lot of things that remain unexplained.
What is paranormal?
Paranormal, according to word-web, is something that exists outside scientific laws. Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.c om/) states that paranormal is "of or pertaining to the claimed occurrence of an event or perception without scientific explanation." In layman's terms, the paranormal is something that defies explanation.
What constitutes as paranormal?
There is a list of things that constitute as paranormal. Those things include, ESP, clairvoyance, clairaudience, spirits, and even gut instincts. These things are all considered paranormal, or "not normal", only because science cannot explain the how of them.
ESP (Extra-sensory Perception), also called the "Sixth-Sense", is something that is experienced without sound, sight, smell, taste or touch. It is a sense that does not rely on the five "known" senses. Basically, being able to sense that something is coming, or going to happen before it does, is considered ESP. Spiderman has ESP, though he calls it his "spidy-sense". ESP is often referred to as "gut instinct".
The word clairvoyance originates from the French language. "Clair" meaning "clear" and "voyance" which means "visibility" was united into the American term "Clairvoyance". This is the ability to gain knowledge of a person, place, or object through visions. Clairvoyance is a form of ESP. However, this term, ESP, and Psychic are commonly used interchangeably to describe several forms of paranormal abilities. The paranormal abilities are clairaudience (hearing without physically hearing), clairsentience (feeling the aura, or vibrations of another person), clairalience (the ability to gain knowledge through smell), claircognizance (the gaining of knowledge suddenly and inexplicably), and clairgustance (the ability to taste something without actually tasting it).
Ghosts are considered paranormal only because they are viewed as unnatural. Spirits are an entity that is believed to be the soul of the dead. Some spirits are demonic or malevolent while still more are beneficial and protective. Depending on the type of spirits, there can be a variety of activity, from moving objects, to misplaced objects, to feelings of being watched, and hearing sounds.
Beliefs concerning the paranormal.
Around the world, many religions and cultures promote belief in the paranormal. Prophets have been known world-wide as receiving visions from their deities. Technically, that means that the prophets, priests, etc, are suffering from ESP.
Those same religions have, especially in the past, believed that the spirits of their ancestors stay in the family. The Scottish call them banshees, who are known as the family matriarch who heralds the death of a family member. The Japanese see them as protectors and guides. Hawaiians know of a procession called the Night-marchers and it is said that if a person sees the marchers, that person will soon join the ranks. There are more stories told of spirits as both good and bad creatures all of them are believed to be the souls of the dead.
In the end
In the end, it is hard for me to say that there is no such thing as the paranormal. Not when so many people have testified to the fact that it is real. I have witnessed several things that could not be explained. So, yeah, I believe in the paranormal.
But what I believe should not convince you. What you see and what you learn should be the final verdict on whether you believe in the paranormal.
