I wake up around 5:30 am to drive to my secondary home, Tacoma Community College. Although school does not start for another four hours i spend 3 hours after school and 3 hours before school grading papers ( which is an interesting topic), preparing my classes, and dressing for my classes.
What I teach in my class changes from day to day but it has the same topic. I teach about how to start and maintain a business. This means that I have to teach my students how to buy the right building and make sure that it is in the right area. Its really important that my students learn to place a business in an area that needs that particular business. For say, if you want to open a Italian restaurant don't place it in a town with a Olive Garden, you would want to place it in a town with little restaurants with little to no choice of dining.
I teach 4 2 hour long classes Monday through Friday. My classes have 40-50 students. Although each student may want to go into a different line of business they each need to learn the same basics. Location, employees, and price. No matter what you sell you need to have the appropriate price to go with it. I generally teach that to get the sale price add the manufacturing cost plus 10% of that to for a profit. It may not seem like a lot but if you place the profit too low you will not make enough money to pay employees or to have any to make it worth it. If you set the price too high no one will buy you products. Employees can be the hardest part of a business, you need to pick the right people to hire. Chose people that are reliable. Don't chose teens that will slack off and scare away your customers. Choose people in their early thirties. These people need jons so you don't have to worry about them slacking off or doing harm to your business. I already talked a bit about location but there is still a bit more to add. Don't place your business in a low income environment because people might think it is not fancy or a cheap business. If you put your business in a high income area people might think that it is too fancy or to expensive for them.
Grading assignments can be either the hardest thing or the easiest thing to do, it depends on what type of assignment it is. Say its a paper stating what type of business you want, or how you will grow you business, and more types of essays of the type the grading can be quite easy because it is just a paper that does not mean much for their future. Say the assignment is a model of their building, grading can be a pain because they need to be just right and I really don't like taking points off for a model but they will need to learn how to make a model. This will help them with designing their store or what ever business they wish to own.
The life of a bisness professer is not very interesting to me, i don't know about you but it is my life and i live it 5 days a week. This article will help you understand why we do the things we do.
