The patent pending Lib Tech Skate Banana is the newest and hottest snowboard out on the slopes today. This yellow snowboard is the next in snowboard technology with its "rocker" or banana shape; hence the name. Two years ago it was decided to give snowboarders more contact with the snow underneath their feet. But the problem was to give more control while maintaining stability. So the people at Mervin Manufacturing reversed a snowboard's "camber" to create the "rocker".
However stability became an issue. Stability in racing and competition would require higher technology advances. So advances with Magne Traction allowed the snowboard to be constructed more like a skateboard with stability added. The Magne Traction is a technology that has seven "bumps" on the bottom of the snowboard; of these seven bumps, only two have to be in contact with the snow to maintain stability.
The main idea for the new style of snowboard is the fact that snowboarding is not the same as skiing and as so should not have the same style. Thus both the skateboard idea and the reversed camber were combined to create the Lib Tech Skate Banana.
Besides being more like a skateboard, the Skate Banana is designed for unlimited freestyle by having a stiff tail and tip which allows for more "pop".
Besides the advances in snowboarding technology, the Lib Tech company is striving to become more earth friendly with their products.
This snowboard has won numerous awards, and consistently receives 5 star reviews from snowboarding peers. Some of the awards include:
~Good Wood Test 2009 - Transworld Magazine
~Inovation of the year 2007 - SIA Snowpress
~Platinum Pick Excellence in Design 2008 Snowboard Magazine
Retailing at $429, the yellow snowboard has mostly pros with great reviews for carving ablilty, for its light weight, well balance on the slopes, toughness and as well as "sickness". Snowboarding peers recommend this board for Half-Pipe, Park, Racing, Sped, Tricks and Powder snowboarding. The only cons are the bland yellow color with a lack of graphics and the higher probability of dings because of its lightness. This board is recommended for serious snowboarders.
