Before you decide to do anything else please do note that Windows Media Player is for legitimate Windows Operating Systems only.

To install Windows Media Player 11

1) Make sure you have the required Operating System. For XP, service pack 2 is preferred.

2) Make sure your computers meets the recommended, or at least the minimum, requirements.

200 MB of free space and 64 MB of ram are the minimum. To see a full list of requirements, click

You may also want to free up your RAM by closing other programs that are on at the time. This will allow for a faster installation.
3) Download and save the executable file (XP , Vista ). You do NOT need to uninstall any previous versions of Windows Media Player.

4) Once the download is finished, double click on the downloaded file in order to run it.

5) Your computer may ask you if it's alright to install, press "Run" (or the Enter key)

The file will now start to extract

6) Once it's done extracting (which will only take a few seconds for most computers), the installation will verify your copy of Windows. Most likely you will not have any issues unless you installed an illegal version of Windows on your computer. Press Validate.

Note: Sometimes even people with legitimate copies have issues, so the following section is important:
There are websites that teach you how to bypass this check if need be. However newer updates to WMP 11 may have accounted for such bypasses.

7) You will now be shown your Terms page. You can read it if you like, or you can just press "I accept". It basically says that you shouldn't use WMP11 for illegal purposes.

8) Your computer will now start to install WMP11 by itself. Don't leave your computer just yet because soon you will have to...

9)..choose your installation settings between "Express Install" and "Custom Settings". Use the recommended installation ("Express Install") - there really isn't much need to customize as the program is well-built. Later on, if you must, you'll be able to change your settings in the Options tab.

Ta-dah! You now have Windows Media Player 11. It will now proceed to collect all of your media into one place. If you are on the internet, it will also search for album art, so make sure you're connected.

If for some reason Windows Media Player 11 does not work, don't worry - there are other media players out there that are just as good (or better).
