Low fat diets for cats? Let me tell you about Cleo.
Cleopatra was a very, very overweight cat. She was born fat. She had a pear shape body with a teeny, tiny head. She was the first born in a litter of six; allowing her siblings to come in to this world a lot easier that she did.
Each and every time I took her to the vet, which was once a year. The vet would give me the lecture, you know the one. "Gerardine, your cat is very over weight, she must be eating all the food. You will need to keep the food bowl empty and off the floor, so poor Cleo, can loose weight."
Hmmm! This would go over well with the other cats...
Now, during this conversation, poor Cleo' will be staring at her cage wanting to hide. I could swear she was thinking, "How dare she tell me I'm fat! I am perfect! I am beautiful. I am happy!"
And, she was, in all her roundness. She was a sweet happy cat. I did have blood drawn, four times over her life time. For the vet was sure it was a thyroid problem.
Wrong! She was healthy as a horse.
The vet then told me to be careful; as she gets older she will develop Kidney disease.
Wrong! She died at fourteen. Not from Kidney disease
A low fat diet for cats, Hmmm! There is only one, absolutely perfect, diet' for a cat.
Can you guess what it is? Here I'll give you a hint. It has whiskers and squeaks. Got it?
It's a mouse! Natures perfect cat food.
Most people cringe at buying their cats mice to eat. And my thought on that is, Why would you need to? Mother Nature allows the creatures-mice-to wander into the cat's domain. Yes, wild kingdom at its finest! The hunt is on!
I have water dishes all over the house to prevent kidney problems. I float ice cubes or Cheerios in large bowls and watch the fun. They get the water all over and lick their fur clean. I am happy to watch the antics.
Feed your cat a good cat food. Not the ones that are a couple dollars a box. I feed my cats, Iams. They love it!
Always, always, talk to your Vet about your cat's health. A simple problem can turn deadly, fast.
Remember, cats and people come in different sizes. Love them all, I do.
