Hotel reviews: Disney's Port Orleans Resort-French Quarter

Our family loves the ease of staying on property when visiting Walt Disney World. The resorts are fun and using Disney transportation is a huge bonus for us! Most trips we stay at a value resort. We normally spend very little time at the resort, so paying the extra money for a moderate or deluxe resort seems silly for our touring style. But for our last trip, we decided to upgrade.

The were several reasons for upgrading. 1: This trip was special- a celebration for our 10th anniversray. 2: This was our first trip with two children and planned on spending more down time at the resort. 3: We wanted to try something different.

Upon arriving at Port Orleans French Quarter, we immediately felt transported outside of Florida! Our first steps inside were into a beautiful open foyer with windows and a fountain in the center. To the left was the food court and lounge and to the right was the front desk. We checked in and headed toward our room.

The walkways at Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ) are little streets and are completely adorable! We were greeted by alligator statues with musical instruments then checked out the pool area. The huge dragon slide looked so fun and we couldn't wait to try it out!

Our room at POFQ was very nice, clean and tidy when we arrived. The room was slightly larger than a value resort room. I noticed it most in the bathroom area and near the entrance door. There was plenty of room there for the portable crib we requested, rather than having it squished next to the table and chairs, making them unusable. The room included a small refrigerator for free. Value resorts charge $10 a day. We could have done without it and only used it for bottles of water and things. It was not a necessity.

After settling our first day, we decided to spend the evening at Downtown Disney and proceeded to the boat docks. We waited about ten minutes and then boarded a boat with direct service to the Marketplace section of Downtown Disney. The ride was quite relaxing, a welcomed alternative to the bus system.

In the morning, as we readied for a day at the parks, I liked having two sinks in the bathroom area. While my daughter brushed her teeth, I could wash and prepare our son's bottles. One sink was designated as the bottle washing station. The larger room size gave extra room in the bathroom area and we had plenty of room to keep a suitcase in there on the floor that held all of our toiletries and things.

We left our room each morning to catch a bus to the chosen park
