How to find work in a recession

Our country is experiencing one of the worse recessions in decades. Last year 2.6 million jobs were eliminated and another 2.0 million more are expected to be loss. What are these unemployed people suppose to do? At some point unemployment benefits will end and not everyone will want to apply for public assistance. Will it be possible for people to find work during this recession? The answer is "yes", if they are willing to do some work, improve their skills and consider all their options.

1. Update Your Resume




With so many people looking for work and so few jobs, your resume has to be perfect. It is important to answer the question, "Do you qualify for the position" at the beginning of your resume. In the Summary section briefly describe your qualifications using keywords that employers use in job postings. Every industry uses specific keywords to describe certain knowledge or skills required for a position. For example, in the insurance industry some keywords are: claims processing, knowledge of medical terminology and development of test matrices. By using these keywords, you are letting potential employers know you have the skills and can do the job.




The summary section should also be used to list any machinery or office equipment you can operate. Be specific when giving the names of computer hardware, software applications and computer languages. Mention your level of expertise on any Microsoft Office applications.




2. Get to Know The Stable Industries




Not every industry has been affected by our failing economy. Two of the most stable industries right now are insurance and healthcare. These industries
continue to operate and prosperity regardless of
the state of the economy. The main reason being, people continue to pay home, auto, and health insurance and still need medical care. Instead of layoffs during the recession, many companies in these industries will be expanding, needing additional employees.




There are many other industries that will need additional employees. Do some research on the different industries and companies in your city. Think about the services or products they provide and their importance in our society. What companies increased their revenue over the years? Which corporations continue to bring in new clients and new sources of revenue? These are
