Whether you're enjoying the scenery and shops of picturesque Newburyport, exploring local history at the Custom House Maritime Museum, or taking in a show at the Firehouse Center, eventually you'll find hunger setting in and the search for a good meal will begin. This hunt will likely start all the earlier (and be all the more difficult!) if instead of simply satisfying your own palette, your little ones are pulling at your sleeve, waiting to be fed as well.
Newburyport has a dizzying array of food options, but for those who must find a suitable choice to fit a kid's (often finicky) tastes, as well as a budget (not to mention finding good food for the adults), there is no better choice than Abraham's Bagels and Pizza on Liberty Street.
Plenty of drink choices (inlcuding skim and soy milk) are only the tip of the iceberg on this family-friendly, wallet-friendly menu, and if you're in the mood for coffee, Abe's offers hot, chilled and blended beverages that hold their own against those from big-chain coffee shops.
As the name suggests, Abe's serves up bagels, and they do it with flair (as bagels are made right before your eyes!). Not only are there 14 delicious bagel flavors to choose from, but Abe's offer 11 unique flavors of cream cheese to complete a delicious breakfast or lunch.
Pizza, a food that most kids can't turn down, also plays a large role in this menu. Sold by the slice or by the pie, Abe's pizzas come in traditional flavors, like cheese or pepperoni, as well as gourmet varities like their Pizza al Pesto. Abe's takes a family classic and offers versions to suit a kids' fussy taste, as well as the more sophisticated palette of the parents.
While pizza and bagels certainly do dominate the restaurant with their aromas, Abe's menu offers soups and sandwiches of a varieties, as well as a broad salad menu, often unheard of at pizza joints. As if this weren't enough, if you need a little something sweet at the end of your meal, there are quite a few delicious dessert options.
Perhaps the only downside to this restaurant, is that they only offer dinner hours on Fridays and Saturdays, so if you want to enjoy the unque flavors, wide variety and great prices, make sure to arrive before 2 p.m.
With many gourmet meats, classic standards and even vegetarian options, at Abe's, every member of the family can find an affordable meal that's filling (and even healthy!).
