Most women are affected by this Urinary Tract Infection very often. Urine in a healthy bladder is normally free of bacteria. But, sometimes bacteria from the rectal or vaginal area may enter the Urinary Tract through the urethra and reaches the bladder.
Urinary Tract Infection is caused mostly by a kind of bacteria called Escherichia coli, which if not treated at the earlier stage can lead to serious health issues. It may affect your bladder, kidney, and can turn into cystitis, which means infection of the bladder or into urethritis, which means infection of urethra, if ignored in earlier stage. But if treated earlier, there is nothing to worry about UTI.
Since the urinary tract of woman is shorter than man, women are more prone to this infection. Also women get affected during their pregnancy time, due to the hormone imbalances and the pressure placed on the bladder.
The main factors that contribute to this infection are
1. Lower water consumption If water is not taken properly as per need, the bacteria which entered into the bladder is not flushed out and it multiplies.
2. Intercourse If the tissues are irritated or slightly damaged in the vaginal area, then the chances of bacterial infection are more.
3. Birth control methods Some women are allergic to the lubricant used in condoms. This may also be a cause for UTI.
4. Structural Issue For some women, the structure of their body itself is a cause for UTI, which their physician could confirm by simple tests.
The common symptoms of UTI are
1. The urge feeling to pass urine very frequently, though you would find it difficult to pass.
2. Burning sensation while passing urine.
3. Lower abdominal pain
4. Trace of blood in the urine
5. Feeling as if bladder not completely evacuated
6. Fever, Nausea and vomiting
Here are few easy and quick remedies for overcoming the UTI.
1. Drink plenty of water, every now and then, as it helps to wash out the toxic substances from body.
2. Drink plain liquids, tender coconut water, more than concentrated and artificial juices.
3. Cranberry juice can be a real good and quick remedy for UTI problem.
4. Take fruits rich in Vitamin C, like orange.
5. Apply coconut / olive oil in your forehead (centre), finger nails, toes, naval (belly button) and in bladder area.
6. Urinate before and after intercourse and keep yourself clean.
There are also few things that can aggregate the infection. Try to avoid them.
1. Using unclean public toilets Unclean toilets are prone to bacteria, which in turn spreads them to you.
2. Unhygienic practices Keep yourself clean, as much as possible.
3. Not taking enough fluids that your body requires Your body needs enough fluids to flush out toxic contents outside.
4. Wearing tight dresses Produces more heat inside your body, which could also create the growth of the bacteria.
5. Holding urine for a long time. Don't hold urine in the bladder for a long time. It will increase the chances of bacterial infection more.
6. Caffeine products Food products containing caffeine, more spices and acidic in nature increases UTI. Avoid alcohol, citrus fruits and chocolates too.
If you have any of the above symptoms for more than 24 hours, you should see the doctor.
In hospital, after diagnosing, the treatments will differ depending upon the severity. Mostly the first step of treatment would be giving antibiotics. The main mistake people commit in this treatment is, they stop taking antibiotics for the prescribed days, once when the symptom is gone. You should take the medicine till the day prescribed by your doctor. Should not stop in the middle.
