Poetry: Rebellion

We Who Understand

You who know but do not understand:
We want not your explanations nor sympathies;
Neither your anger, nor your kind of love.
We want from you your silence.
You trespass on our feelings,
You drown out our wisdom,
And stomp on our understanding. So now,
We rebel.

We thunder across the land,
Getting our strength from our ever-present Leader.
Our unbending will, untarnished courage,
Our strength, and power grow.
You cry out, "What will become of your lives?"
We ask, "What is Life?" You
Cannot answer.

We sail upon the seven seas:
"Where'er the four winds take us."
We are pirates outlawed from your land
For we are silent no longer.
We roar our rage through the air
Surging nearer ... nearer ... nearer ...
Armed with all you have tried to eliminate,
But could not.

We are completely indestructible,
Protected by our shield of love.
We have each other to comfort our weary
As we camp in the wilderness. Hope blooms
Because we understand that you will
Some day fall.
