Chapped lips can prove to be very uncomfortable and painful. And not only that, they are a source of embarrassment. The best way to deal with this condition is to prevent them. So what can you do to avoid chapped lips? Here are some wonderful tips that will help you prevent dryness and ultimately avoid getting chapped lips:
* Drink enough water to avoid chapped lips
If you are prone to chapped lips, the chances are that your water intake is low. Low water intake tends to cause dehydration in the body. So of course, your lips are going to get dry and if ignored, you will end up getting chapped lips. So drink at least eight glasses of water each day.
* Avoid tea and coffee to avoid chapped lips
If you take a little too much tea and coffee on a daily basis, the chances are that you will end up getting chapped lips. So keep your intake of tea and coffee to a minimum. Replace them with a glass of water or a glass of your favorite vegetable or fruit juice. You should also avoid smoking to prevent chapped lips.
* Take special care in extreme weather conditions to avoid chapped lips
You would have noticed that there are certain periods in the year where the weather is quite dry. Extreme weather conditions are usually the time when your lips will begin to dry and develop cracks. Don't wait for the season to do its damage. Begin taking precautions before the dry season begins.
* Apply lip balm to avoid chapped lips
Apply a lip balm as soon as you begin to feel dryness. Always keep them with you wherever you go. And moisten your lips with them whenever you feel the dryness. Make it a practice to use it each time you take a drink or eat something. If lip balms do not help you, the good old petroleum jelly is always there. You can even try using shea butter or coconut oil or even honey to moisturize your lips.
* Don't lick your lips to avoid chapped lips
Most people tend to lick their lips as soon as they feel dryness on their lips. Its easy and its right there. However, although it may give you relief for a few minutes, it will only increase the dryness on your lips. Your saliva will further dry your lips and this will lead to chapped lips. This is where a lip balm comes in handy. Instead of licking your lips, just use lip balm to moisten your lips.
If you can prevent the dryness on your lips, you can surely avoid chapped lips. So drink lots of water. Keep those coffee and cigarettes to a minimum. Keep your lips moistened, but don't use your saliva to do this. These tips will definitely help you avoid chapped lips.
