Criminal Justice can be an exciting field to study. My typical day started at 7 a.m. with an Abnormal Psychology class. Lots of talking about people with mental disorders such as schizophrenia. Next onto the Behavioral Statistics. That's a hard class let me tell you. I am not one to do statistics and really didn't enjoy this class, but it's a part of the curriculum. After this class, it is onto Constitutional Issues. Very interesting class. It is really intense and keeps you on your toes. This class comprised of lots of case studies sent to the U.S. Supreme Court. The tests were really hard with short answers and pleading your case.
I had a class that met once a week for a project and then was given the entire week to research in the library for the case and write up a summary pleading my case. Criminal Justice is a very challenging degree that I believe is very underrated. There is a wide variety of courses within the program to choose from. I liked most of my classes and liked the challenge. The professors are always available for help with understanding or finding information. They used to joke that they were making us (the students) "better criminals".
Another class I took consisted of a textbook called "Serial Killers." A paperback book as the textbook. It was great. I used to read it right before bed. My dorm roommate thought I was crazy wanting to read that kind of stuff before sleep. It didn't bother me at all. I find human nature fascinating.
One semester I did my internship at my state's bureau of investigation. It consisted of my assisting on the sex offender registry, missing persons registry, missing children's registry, creation of a gang unit, and the state's 10 most wanted list. It had it's ups and downs. Some days it was very interesting, others were quite boring. It is all par for the course.
Would I recommend criminal justice to another student? Absolutely! Did I get a job in this field? Yes! I took a position at my state's bureau of investigation, where I did my internship.
