He's had his share of girlfriends, but now he is with you. Were they all just "starter girlfriends'? Or has he just finally given up on looking for the right one? How do you know if your guy really wants to be with you?
Whether he has been married before, or just has had more than his share of girlfriends in the past, it can be frustrating if you have to constantly wonder what his motive is. Nobody wants to feel that someone has settled for them. But they also don't want to think that they are 'the one', only to find out that they were really just a 'starter wife'.
Lori was in love with the man of her dreams. He appeared to be out of her league in many ways. He made more money than her, had a better credit report, owned his own home, was strikingly handsome, and incredibly outgoing. She was average in looks, rented a tiny one bedroom apartment, worked as a temp in an office, and didn't even have good enough credit to purchase a vehicle. They met at a park, when she was enjoying an afternoon run. He was very forward with her, and told her that he would love to take her out sometime. Lori couldn't believe that she had just been hit on while she was a sweaty mess in her running clothes!
They went on their first date, and had an excellent time. Soon they were seeing each other regularly, and became a couple. From the outside, everything seemed to be perfect. They lived in his perfect little house and went to his perfect little company events. But inside, Lori always wondered what he saw in her. She had came across pictures of his ex girlfriends, and they were all stunning. She had even met a few at various events that she attended. These women were bombshells, successful, and super nice! She was just so Plain Jane and boring. He always spoke highly of his ex's, so why wasn't he with one of them?
Lori's wandering mind started to consume her. She began comparing herself to anyone and everyone that her guy knew - or even took a second look at. She began to distance herself from him, expecting that he was going to dump her soon. She became withdrawn from their social life, for fear that she was being laughed at when she was seen with him. At one point, she considered just breaking up with him, thinking that would soften the blow of the inevitable.
Her guy started to notice the change in her, and thought maybe she was having an affair. One night she asked him "Why do you love me?" He looked puzzled, and responded "There are a lot of reasons." Lori wasn't happy with that answer, so she said "You have dated some of the most beautiful women I have ever laid eyes on. They all seem funny, intelligent, and sweet as can be. So why me?"
He went on to explain to her that he was in love with her as a whole. That the outer shell of his ex girlfriends covered a lot of ugliness. Some were unfaithful, some were liars, another was an alcoholic. But Lori - Loris was beautiful inside and out. She wasn't someone he settled for, she was the one he had waited for.
