Songs: Being alone

by Mary Clark

Created on: February 02, 2009

My fingers trace this frame

where our picture used to be.

I kept this empty glass

filled with your memory.

You would think by now

it wouldn't matter anymore

but love burns deep,

often deeper than before

and it won't be ignored.

When your echo comes,

slicing through a silent night

my heart succumbs to you,

it gives in without a fight.

I let you in, let you take

more than I'm prepared to give,

dance within your whisper

sleep where love once lived

and I've the strength to forgive.

My fingers trace your photo

that once filled up the frame

couldn't seem to part with it

couldn't ash it with a flame

The edge has long-since tattered

the image slowly fades to gray

from living in that moment

when love had come to stay

but we let it slip away
