The Stimulus plan is bound for failure. This is a strong statement and should be looked at objectively. The Stimulus bill may be adding to the economic problem instead of taking away.
First there is the fifteen thousand mortgage stimulus for people wanting to buy houses. This at first sounds like a great idea, however after that Fifteen thousand dollars is gone, then what will they do. In these days Fifteen Thousand is not a lot of money to put to a house. I am wondering if this is like a small loan, just like the banks were giving out that everyone was opposed to. After the money is gone, there will be a need for another Stimulus. Will the taxpayers then be asked to bail out the banks again? Remember most of these banks are global so not all the money they are given stays here in the United States.
Secondly, there is the stimulus for everyone that worked One Thousand for couples and five hundred for others. This money is supposed to be spent at stores to get our economy on its feet. Most people with spend most of it like they did last year, paying down credit cards or their mortgage payment. It surely will be welcomed money, however would not it be better to use coupons where half if not more had to be spent in stores, sort of like a Visa card that could be added to every year.
There is the infrastructure that includes roads and bridges. These same roads and bridges are listed on the state tax bills also. As one of the late night comedians said about tolls, "I pay my tolls, I want my money back."
It is a good thing that the Stimulus plan will help the hard working people that were laid off with their health coverage. So many people are without health coverage, many the elderly. Many of the elderly have to choose between medications and food. The health insurance in America does need a new face.
There are other good things in the package like his no child left behind. Unfortunately, those tax breaks probably will not cover the cost of the programs. It was a long time ago when the schools cut the music and art programs from the schools because there was not enough money. It was a choice between art and sports.
Overall, there are some good points to the package; however, they do not outweigh the failures. GM has sister companies in China and Brazil and the work are is being outsourced cheaply to other countries. They pay their engineers a good salary to go to these places for months to oversea productions. So where does the auto companies' money go really. In actuality there are Pharmaceutical Companies with sister companies in Ireland also and that work was outsourced. Even telemarketers working for a minimal wage lost their jobs last year to outsourcing. Outsourcing will continue to be a real problem here, more than the people coming through the borders are.
The Stimulus Package will be only a slight pick me up, but this is not the answer. All Americans need to change their spending habits. If there is not enough to buy something then one probably really does not need it. Charge cards and loans need to be paid down as much as possible. The American people need to become responsible for their own debt from now on. "Money just does not grow on trees."
