There are several ways a person can protect their teeth. Looking after your teeth is important for your overall health.
Brushing Daily
Brushing two or more times per day, helps protect your teeth. You should use a good toothpaste and spend at least one minute going over your teeth. Brushing in the morning, after meals, and before you go to bed will provide you with the best protection. Try to brush after sugar treats as well. Brushing will remove food deposits on your teeth and help prevent things like cavities. Replace your toothbrush every month or so. Many brushes have a blue strip in the middle that will turn dull as the toothbrush gets worn. You should replace the brush when this happens.
Flossing
Flossing your teeth on a daily basis helps to remove food deposits your toothbrush may have missed. This also works when you have food particles stuck between your teeth and works better then a toothpick which can hurt your gums. Flossing after meals is the best option or after snacks.
Mouthwash
Many mouthwashes are now anti-bacterial. These rinses can further enhance your protection. Use it in the morning to kill the bacteria that has growing in your mouth overnight or whenever you want to freshen your breath.
Drink Water
Drinking water helps keep your mouth clean and removes food particles. Keep a bottle with you at all times and sip on it throughout the day. If you don't have access to a toothbrush, try rinsing your mouth out with water after a meal to help clean your teeth.
Limit Sugar
Try to limit your intake of sugar drinks and snacks. Sugar intake over time will damage your teeth and cause things such as cavities and other mouth problems. If you do consume sugar try and brush afterwards to help limit the damage caused.
See The Dentist
Make regular trips to the dentist to have your teeth professionally cleaned. You should go at least once per year, while two is more recommended. Always see the dentist if you experience any type of mouth pain. If you go early enough you may catch serious dental problems before they get worse. You can also save yourself a lot of money in the process. Make sure you get children and reluctant teenagers to the dentist as well.
You can keep your original teeth for your whole life if you take good care of them. Spend time cleaning and looking after them properly. See your dentist on a regular basis and watch your intake of sweets.
