We live in a world where we are constantly sent the silent message that how we look to others is very important. Because of this many women have begun to base their self confidence upon their body image, believing that how they feel about themselves can be manipulated via changing the way that they look.
This mistaken belief is fuelled by the media which exerts even more pressure on vulnerable individuals. Glossy magazines are full of photographs of busty sirens whose images have been altered digitally to make their breasts appear perfect. Billboards depicting beautiful women who have great bodies are virtually everywhere you go. It is no wonder then, that some women compare themselves unfavorably to these images which are not of the average looking women, and which have been manipulated to seem more attractive than they are.
Breasts are an intimate part of a woman's anatomy that she may feel reflects her sexuality and sensuality. If she feels lacking in this department then she may well form the opinion that by increasing her bust size she may also increase her self confidence. The truth is though that by manipulating her body nothing will be altered on the inside, and she will be left with the same insecurities and worries that she had before surgery took place.
True self confidence comes from the knowledge that you are perfectly fine as an individual. It comes from understanding that you are totally acceptable, or even better than that, you are great just as you are.
A lack of confidence however, is likely to stem from the opposite direction. That is from regarding yourself as second rate or somehow faulty. If you constantly believe that you are not good enough then you may be drawn to attempting to alter your appearance in order to fit in, or to try to gain confidence via admiration.
However, there is a fundamental problem with this as although you may improve your appearance, by having had surgery you will also have fuelled the idea that you have that you need to be altered in order to be seen as being fine.
This is why surgery cannot improve self esteem and confidence deep down. The size of a woman's breasts cannot determine how confident she feels. It can only determine her bra size.
When breast implants are chosen by a woman as a means of gaining confidence this may be regarded in a similar manner to a man buying a shiny sports car because he feels that it will increase his popularity. People may admire the car, as they may well admire a woman's breasts, but it won't make people actually like him any more than if he drove a clapped out mini.
