Have you ever picked up a Bible and held it in your hand? Were you aware of the significance of that book? What you held in your hand was not simply a book of opinions, ideals, morals, or judgments. Though it was penned by men on this earth, it was inspired and guided by the hand of God. While it was being written, there was no realization that it would be later compiled through God's will into the physical manifestation of the direct and concise word of God. Much of the Bible in the Old Testament consists of the written history of man derived from eyewitness accounts, and discernment of God's will through prophesy bestowed by the Holy Spirit as explained in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. The Bible begins in Genesis 1:1 with four very profound words. "In the beginning God..." I expect that nearly everyone can complete that verse. In that statement alone the Bible indicates that God has always been here and all existence has been formed for his pleasure. We are the children of God and he is our omnipotent Father. Revelations 1:8, Isaiah 44:6 and Psalm 90:2 all express that God is first and will be forevermore. There has never nor will ever be one greater than Him. His living word which is the Bible can never be outdated because He will never cease to exist.

There are often many complaints that the Bible is too cryptic or too difficult to understand. These concerns are addressed in a couple of ways. The most important is that it is necessary to get involved with a fellowship of others for the purpose of studying the Bible. Attendance in a church body is wonderful, but it will only provide you with spiritual milk. Always dive into the Bible yourself so that God can show you the meat. Do not simply take the pastor's word as fact. Read and compare the sermon notes that you receive with your own Bible and open your heart to God's revelations. I expect that several verses were notated and mentioned during the course of his sermon. Take a pen and underline the verses you cover. After a short time, you will find that these random Biblical references will add up. As you take the time to build a relationship with God, He will show you what you need to know in those little passages you have marked. I once believed that taking a portion of a verse to show a point was a bit shady to say the least, however, once you have grown a relationship with God, He will use it to answer your questions and needs.
