Poetry: A moment

by Ry Moore

Created on: February 02, 2009

In a moment

the chatter dissolves into silence

interspersed only by twitter of the birds

settling in the trees;

and the cooling wind

gently kissing the leaves;

and the sound of the occasional vehicle

passing by.

In a moment

the grass baked brown

in the golden sun a few moments ago

rises momentarily to stretch itself

as the golden heat slips quietly

into a golden hue

making the grass look green;

and then yellow

as it giggles with the breeze

caressing the lawn.

In a moment

the trees too stretch their arms outward

as if to gather

the golden soft rays of

that once ardent sun

and from somewhere

shadowy figures sneak stealthily across the park

stealing the shape of that open oval

which not long ago buzzed in the amusement of

the children and the adults

as the ran helter-skelter

behind balls and wheels and laughter.

In a moment

the night comes

to shuts out the sun's light

with a blanket of darkness

interrupted only momentarily

by a flickering light somewhere

but that also

only lasts for a moment.
