Songs: Growing up

Daddy's Little Girl

Seems like only yesterday, I held you in my arms

My beautiful baby girl, you had your mother's charms

My heart just melted, when you first smiled at me

Then came those little steps, trying to find your feet.

With piggyback rides and pig tails flying in the wind

Pinky swears, or daddy lets just pretend

It seems I missed out on all your little precious times

Growing up and learning, how to make a rhyme

As I look down upon you now, can't believe what I see

Daddy's little girl is turning thirteen

I missed Barbie dolls and tea parties, out on the lawn

I missed heartache and teardrops, over a little fawn

I missed the monster under the bed

And please daddy, don't turn out the lights

I missed counting fireflies, and wishing on a star

Flying kites and now look just how old you are

If only I could have been there, to hear you when you called

Oh, how I wish, I hadn't missed it all

Time moves so quickly, when your standing still

My baby girl is growing up, she's turning eighteen this year

I missed the first date, with the boy down the street

And learning to dance, while standing on my feet

Chasing butterflies, in the city park

Playing hide-n-seek, out in the dark

I wasn't there to hold you, when life seemed so unfair

To wipe away your tears, or to let you know how much I care

Sorry I couldn't be there, and how it breaks my heart

To watch someone else, playing my part

I missed Barbie dolls and tea parties, out on the lawn

I missed heartache and teardrops, over a little fawn

I missed the monster under the bed

And please daddy, don't turn out the lights

I missed counting fireflies, and wishing on a star

Flying kites and now look just how old you are

If only I could have been there, to hear you when you called

Oh, how I wish, I hadn't missed it all

The date has been set now, you're getting married in style

I only wish, I could walk you down the isle

You're a fine young lady, with a good man at your side

He promised to love and protect you, with each and every stride

I wish you the best, as you dance in the moonlight's glow

Wrapped up in his arms, as the music starts to flow

I just want you to know, no matter where you go

I'll always be here, watching over you, my dear

I missed Barbie dolls and tea parties, out on the lawn

I missed heartache and teardrops, over a little fawn

I missed the monster under the bed

And please daddy, don't turn out the lights

I missed counting fireflies , and wishing on a star

Flying kites and now look just how old you are

If only I could have been there, to hear you when you called

Oh, how I wish, I hadn't missed it all
