Hollywood and politics: What makes movie stars political experts?

by T. M. Beeker

Money talks which Hollywood has plenty of, therefore political leaders and the media are listening. Yes, for some reason God-given talent at portraying a role, writing entertainment, or singing pays off big so there is plenty to spread around for pet causes and headline catching statements, positions, and ideas.

Thanks to lobbying and special interest that can spend millions buying political leadership we have a political system up for the highest bidder. Hollywood and its ilk likewise have the millions to spend. Don't be upset, after all the ability to make lots of money seems to only measure of success in the United States. Heck, Hillary raised enough money to buy the election many times over so Hollywood's big rollers and the media dutifully picked her until Barak showed up with his own sackful cash thanks to Mommy Talk-Show Bucks (Oprah). Hollywood then turned on the Clinton gang and jumped aboard the bandwagon which seems to be something of a sport for the moneyed entertainment set. So yet again another political figure has been purchased by the wealthy elite. My question is the same, the original money that was part of what will send the former Illinois Governor to jail also went to a then obscure state rep and later Senator so why does he walk away clean? Simple, Hollywood and its millions can create spin that distances one crook from another.

Movie stars are about as smart as the rest of us. The difference is that we willingly spend money (huge sums) to be entertained by them. We somehow forget or ignore the fact shrimpy Tom Cruise is NOT a fighter pilot, cool bartender, plotter of Hitler's demise, or any other character he has portrayed. So, since the spotlight is already on him and the money is there to buy a few politicians why not spout off about how he thinks the nation and the world should run?

Democracy says one person one vote. Hollywood says one person, lots of money, forget voting just buy the politicians running for office. It makes sense, why run the risk that voters will pick someone that does not thinking acting is qualification enough to run the world? If you buy the person running for office you have control over their actions, policies, and power. Easy to win betting on a race where you own most if not all of the horses running.

Sorry to disapoint those who voted for 'change' in Obama. He is into Hollywood for millions. Regardless of what he says his actions so far have not differed from the ideas and 'suggestions' of those in the entertainment
