When you're defeated and feeling lost
Don't despair at all
Listen well and you will hear
Your beloved father call
Even though you chose to leave his house
And the protection of his name
On your return, you're welcomed back
His love for you untainted - just the same.
What wondrous news, to know your Lord
And his unchanging, loving way
He's there for you through thick and thin
His love will never go astray
For many years I've searched to find
That your love dear Lord was always mine.
I've dipped my toes in ponds of faith
In search of man-made truths
But all awhile I failed to see
The folly of my youth
You are patient, caring, trustworthy and kind
A more forgiving Father I could never find
You welcome me home, give me clothes and a ring
You've
given a whole new meaning to this forgiveness thing
To forgive comes far quicker when the blood ties bound
But forgetting the ill deed is harder I've found
Yet you manage so consistently to always stay the same
Every time I come knocking, it is never in vain
Your arms always open, you'd serve the best wine
Your table fully ladened for your guest of honour to dine
This grand celebration was your welcoming act
I'm not sure why I doubted that you'd have me back
Coming home makes me realise the person I am
No more the prodigal son or daughter or strayed lamb
