Creating a scrapbook recipe organizer

Creating a recipe organizing scrapbook is a wonderful way to honor those people in your life that have had an impact on your love of cooking. A recipe scrapbook would also make a terrific gift at Christmas or for a new bride as she starts her own home and family.

Begin by purchasing a scrapbook with the ability to hold added pages. Keep in mind the amount of pages needed to get started and the various categories such as appetizers, main course and desserts that are to be placed in the book.

Planning the Page

When planning to decorate the page, gather items representing the person who introduced you to the recipe. For example if your grandmother made a certain dish you absolutely love, include a picture of her and write a short summary describing your grandmother. If the recipe is from the country of your grandmother's birth use a theme representing that country. Surround the recipe with these items.

Try to find the origin of the recipe through family members. Perhaps your grandfather made a homemade bar-b-que sauce from scratch that was handed down through the generations. Include information such as the year he was born and who his parents were. This will help the historians in the family when doing genealogy also.

If the recipe is from a fisherman in the family design your page using a fishing motif. Gather scrap booking materials depicting your fishing theme.

Recipes used for family gatherings could be surrounded by mementos of that gathering. Special cakes used for a birthday or cookies baked for school events could be displayed with themes from those occasions. Young mothers are always looking for cookies recipes for fundraisers and if yours was a hit at a school bake sale this would be a wonderful helpful hint for a future bake sale. Simply use a school theme.

Organizing Your Recipes

Separate your recipes into specific categories. Start with appetizers then follow with your main dishes and side dishes, this is a good place for gravies and sauces. Add your desserts first cakes then pies followed by cookies. Finish with miscellaneous recipes for drinks and snacks.

Assembling Your Book

Once the pages are complete, arrange them in your scrapbook. Leave room for future pages. Decorate the front of your book as you choose. On the first page insert a page about yourself along with a picture and provide contact information should the recipient wish to add to the scrapbook and need ideas.

What a great way to create a family album and recipe source for generations to come. This would make a wonderful heirloom to pass along to your children and grandchildren.
