Biography: Audrey Hepburn

ballet pumps. She allowed ordinary' women to be comfortable in their own skin and love themselves, faults and all and this was exactly her goal. She even gave these women advice: "My look is attainable. Women can look like Audrey Hepburn by flipping out their hair, buying large sunglasses and the little sleeveless dresses." A famous Hepburn quote is "I never thought I'd ever land in pictures with a face like mine", however her face is still endlessly celebrated today on t-shirts, handbags, canvases, mugs and just about everything else you can think of. She is also remembered as one of the most beautiful women in the world.

Hepburn could play dramatic roles, she could act the clown and she even tried her hand at singing and dancing opposite Fred Astaire in Funny Face. There seemed to be nothing that Audrey couldn't do. However, it may be surprising to learn that Audrey only made twenty films in Hollywood, since she created so many iconic figures during that time: Princess Ann from Roman Holiday, the title character in Sabrina, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady and of course the unforgettable Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Not only did this character become an unforgettable icon of the silver screen, but so did her costumes. She breathed new life into the Little Black Dress phenomenon and, along with French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, created a wardrobe every girl would kill for. There are even two books on the subject: How to be Lovely: The Audrey Hepburn Way of Life by Melissa Hellstern and Audrey Style by Pamela Clarke Keogh, which tells us how to be lovely inside and outside, with a killer wardrobe that includes a Hermes scarf, a pair of skinny jeans, a shift dress, a white shirt, a Sabrina style dress and Gregory Peck! The later even shows us how to do our makeup like Audrey in several film roles and the secrets to her svelte figure. In other words, these books are selling the dream that ordinary women can look like Audrey Hepburn, which Audrey believed herself.

One telling quote from Audrey says a lot about her personality, and her upbringing, "It's that wonderful old-fashioned idea that others come first and you come second. This was the whole ethic by which I was brought up. Others matter more than you do, so don't fuss, dear; get on with it." Another quote from Hepburn, perhaps making a mockery of the glamour tips' of Hollywood, illustrates perfectly how she treated others, and expected to be treated back: "For beautiful eyes, look
