Understanding the lifestyle of a CSI professional

Crime scene investigating is a world of its own. It ranges from the mundane to the gruesome and back. Most crime scenes investigations are more a matter of surveying the aftermath of an event to confirm what is already known. It rarely is the exciting painstaking effort seen on crime shows. The vast majority of solved crimes involve a situation where the perpetrator is already known and frequently has confessed. Our job is to gather enough evidence to keep him or her from changing the story.

At times, however, it's a real mystery with blood trails and finger prints and assortments of other clues to find and document carefully. While every crime should receive such attention, unfortunately, it is the spectacular and celebrity crimes that tend to suck up the attention.

In investigating any locale, a certain stoic detachment needs to be maintained so that emotions do not cloud the ability to focus on the details. Even in interviewing possible suspects and witnesses, it can be easy to let yourself become biased in the way you pose the questions or regard the answers.

In this work, you also need to work hard to keep work at work and not bring it home. This is true both because of the need of confidentiality and your family deserves to have your company without scraped emotions and anger.
