In this day and age, it is very important to promote your work. However, many question themselves on one question. Which is a better medium for promotion, websites or blogs? Both are very similar, but have totally different functions.
When it all comes down to it, both could be used for promoting work. Ultimately it depends on the type of work being promoted, and the type of vibe you wish to create by doing so. However, considering all of the pros when it comes to using a website to promote work, I believe it is better then a blog.
Why? It's because websites are much more customizable then blogs, seeing as they allow users to create pages from scratch. The ability to create pages from scratch give the Webmaster limitless possibilities when it comes to the layout, and the features of the website.
Of course, it all depends on the level of experience the Webmaster has, in some cases creating a blog is better only because the person has no HTML coding experience. If a person is willing to learn HTML and other code languages, creating a website can spell out dollar signs.
What I am referring to is the fact that most blog creating websites don't allow you to use Google Adsense and other revenue methods. WordPress is one of the most popular blog creation services on the Internet, and only has a limited number of optional features for blogs, and doesn't allow Google Adsense to be used.
On the other hand, even if you were to build a free website at Yahoo's Geocities website, you could use that to promote your work and depending on the amount of visitors, possibility make some good cash. Another reason creating a website is much better then utilizing a blog is the fact that websites are typically user friendly.
It's no secret that blogs can be boring, as the typical blog has someone writing about an event or posting pictures that they believe are interesting. On the other hand, a website typically has different sections for various subjects or features. For example, if someone wanted to read about website reviews, then that user would just have to click on that link. Websites can be used to spread out information between different sections, and all of it can be easier to find.
Personally, I would create a website over a blog any day, but ultimately it depends on the type of product you are promoting, and the vibe you want to create. Additionally, there are a variety of services out there that charge differently for website and blog creation services.
