In the end, it all comes down to one thing. They all had the courage to get up on the stage and audition in front of thousands of viewers. I got to give them a hand because I have a hard time getting up and doing karaoke in front of a handful of people. While I'm sticking to singing in the shower, they have the courage to go on television. Good or bad, they have guts even though they may not have any talent and that is what makes American Idol one of the greatest reality shows on television today.
The American Idol season premiere seemed to be under fire after it aired. Larry King seemed to think that the judges were having fun at the singer's expenses. True the staggering numbers of people who did not make it to Hollywood far outweighed the one's that got the golden ticket but you have to consider the fact that no one forced them to go to the audition in the first place. In fact, from the judges reactions to some of the American Idol hopefuls, they probably would have preferred that some of them stayed home.
American Idol encompasses the American dream to a tea. Despite all the odds that are stacked against us, we are told from birth that we should go out there and follow our dreams. Apparently, for many being a professional singer is on the top of a lot of people's dream careers. We have been taught to do whatever it takes to make our dreams become a reality. For many it meant standing in line for hours so that they could put themselves out their in hopes for the judges to see the potential that they think that they possess.
From the beginning, American Idol did not discriminate and welcomed all to show up and sing to their hearts content; and that's exactly what they did last Tuesday and Wednesday. Although many of us had a hard time taking them seriously, I think that for the most part all of them that showed up not only took themselves seriously but seriously thought that they could sing. We are all entitled to our opinion on how well we thought that they sang but so were they; and they thought they were good if they did say so themselves. Some even sang their praises in the end as they walked out the doors despite their less than raving reviews. Still thousands of people whom we never heard from didn't get to tell America what they thought. But if we had heard from them, I think that we would have heard a similar message. They thought they could make it, they thought they sang well and most of them probably thought the judges were wrong.
