called Midsummer Night's Dream. And he exists because he was created through thought.
If the thought that these creatures exist is true, then why can't everyone see these things running around the earth? Well, when someone thought up these creatures, someone also thought up a different realm for them to live in. This other realm, often called the underworld, may cross paths with ours when people "see" it.
Children have been believed to "see" this realm the easiest because it is believed that they are more perceptive, or psychic, than adults, therefore making it easier for them to see fairies and other mythological creatures. It is also believed that it is easier for them to see it because these creatures really exist for them. Some traditions that go back through the ages had a belief system based on the fact that certain fairies, and other creatures of the like, such as unicorns, aid children by protecting and watching over them during sleeping hours.
Not all of these creatures were thought up to aid children, however. Some of them, like the bogeyman or vampire, were thought up by people too. These creatures through tradition have special powers like fairies and unicorns, but aren't as revered as them. If one believes that a good entity like a unicorn exists, then is it possible for a vampire to exist?
The answer to that question would have to be, yes, vampires can exist. Do they live on earth in places like Transylvania because someone at one point said they do? No, they don't. But that does not mean that they don't exist. They exist the same way, and in the same realm, that fairies and unicorns do.
So what should you do or say to your little one at 3 AM when they insist they see something under their bed that isn't "real" by earth standards? Should you explain philosophy to them, or what "tulpas" is? Probably not, after all, it's 3 AM and you are probably tired. But what you can say to them, if you believe, is that those creatures couldn't possible hurt them because they live in another realm or plane. They don't "exist" here in this realm known as earth.
