Residual income: The way to wealth

by Daniel J. Gansle

Created on: January 31, 2009

The concept of how to make money through residual income is nothing new. It's the underlying principle of book royalties, vending machines, and network marketing. After an initial push, your investment continues to make money day and night, not unlike a stock or money market fund.

What is new are the growing number of sites on the web that offer relatively simple, legitimate ways to make money. It's not a get rich quick scheme by any means, but with a lot of hard work and dedication, it can be done with minimal investment.

In this article, we'll look at five ways you can make money through residual income on the web.

Make Money Blogging with Google

If you have a blog and you're not placing Google ads in it, you're missing out on a potential stream of residual income. Google offers a free ad placement service called Adsense where you can create an ad and embed the code into your blog. Point your web browser to http://adsense.google.com for more information. You need to register with Google for a free Adsense account, but you can embed the code anywhere in your blog or website.

Make Money Writing Articles on the Web

Revenue-sharing paid content sites are quickly gaining popularity across the web. Revenue sharing means that the sum total advertising revenue brought in by the site (and by each page of content published by the member) is shared. Your job is writing original, quality articles that get picked up by Google when it crawls the web and indexes sites. Paid content sites include Helium, Associated Content, Squidoo":http://www.squidoo.com, Newsvine, and eHow.

Make Money Writing a Blog on the Web

In addition to making money by writing articles on the web, you can also make money simply by writing a blog. A blog is typically a shorter piece and is generally regarded as a casual opinion or thought on any given topic. A blog also features a comment area where readers can add their thoughts about the article. Revenue-sharing blogs include ZestBit and Xomba.

Make Money Sharing Video on the Web

Some revenue-sharing websites allow you to make money by posting and sharing your favorite video. Revver attaches advertising to your video and members share in the collective revenue generated by each advertising enabled video. On the more professional side, you can make money at Metacafe for your original short-form video. While you can make money on MetaCafe through their Producer Rewards program, you cannot submit personal videos, news stories, or webcam video.

Make Money Reviewing Products and Services

While they're technically not revenue sharing sites per se, you can make money by reviewing products on the web. Two paid product review sites are Ciao and ReviewStream, both of whom pay money into your PayPal account.

If you want to make money and earn residual income, it can be done with minimal up-front investment and lots of persistence and dedication. Set your goal and stick with it, but also exercise patience because your wealth won't necessarily come overnight.
