geniune musician who created meaningful music to help the world. Punk rock has a certain element of self destruction in it and this sort of music is not like Neil's song from his Mirror ball album called 'Love and Peace'. Punk rock, by its very definition from the little Oxford dictionary, means rotten or seedy, poor or worthless. Why would anyone want to give this label to any sort of music, which by it's definition is the art of expressing harmonious emotion.....any pleasant sound.
So to conclude my very unlearned contribution to this topic, which was really to say Johnny Rotten would have been honored to know of Neil's words. Neil is still around to thrill crowds with his messages of love and peace. In fact he is a true legend and I don't know that I would link him with either punk or grunge, if Kurt Cobain has anything to do with the latter. To conclude in Neil's words from the song, "Hey,Hey My, My"..... rock and roll will never die, once you've gone you can't come back, out of the blue and into the black". That pretty well sums up punk for me. Perhaps I am just an old fashioned rocker who has seen them all since the sixties and whose last last five concerts have all been gratis thanks to our children. They have been, The Rolling Stones, Eagles, Joe Cocker, Roger Waters and Pink Floyd, and Neil Young. Once you have seen the foundation members of this elite music group performing at their very best in the new millenium, and you realise they started it all, punk rock becomes a passing pretender for punk types to grasp onto.
Punk you are as skunk, your music has shrunk and now it's time for you to take a dunk, otherwise to listen to you would make me drunk. My article ends with a clunk only because we have to mention punk. Neil is a living legend; Johnny Rotten and Kurt Cobain are dead, so it's only right you put Neil's music of peace and love in your head.
