Baby Shower Themes

Whether you are the proud mom-to-be, or the lucky loved one who gets to plan a shower for a friend or family member, choosing the shower theme can be both stressful and fun. If the parents have a specific idea for their nursery, then you might be able to run with that theme. But if you have to come up with an idea on your own, here are a few great ideas:

Winnie-the-Pooh: Sometime in the past few years, Winnie-the-Pooh has made a big comeback. It probably has something to do with the fact that children who grew up in the 1980s and fondly remember the Disney cartoons are now interested in introducing the honey-loving bear to their own babies. Winnie-the-Pooh is a truly classic teddy bear, and a great theme for a baby shower. You can find lots of party supplies, such as plates and cups, and even decorations for this theme. And you can purchase a cake shaped as Winnie-the-Pooh or Eyeore for dessert.

Stork: Storks are so traditional and symbolic, and though a stork theme may seem boring, if you're willing to be a little creative, this is a great baby shower idea, especially for a mom-to-be who doesn't yet know the sex of her baby. With a stork theme, you can choose any combination of colors for the decorations, streamers, balloons and party supplies. You might want to go with a pretty yellow or maybe a mint green (or perhaps both). Instead of traditional paper streams, pick up some tulle at a local craft store and use it to create a really soft and beautiful ceiling-look for the party.

Teddy Bears: This is the baby shower theme my sister chose for her recent baby shower, and it was a lot of fun. We found really cute teddy bear invitations on TinyPrints.com and opted to use different teddy bears as the table centerpieces. We got a few balloons to add to the teddy bear decorations, and had a game to name famous teddy bears such as Paddington Bear, the Berenstein Bears, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, etc. It's amazing how many famous teddy bears there are!

Afternoon Tea Party: This is a more sophisticated idea that caters to certain moms-to-be who are looking for a fun and grown-up party theme. The Afternoon Tea Party puts the focus on the mom and gives her some well-deserved attention and down-time before the birth of her child. You can decorate tables with pretty cloth table linens and use fresh flowers for centerpieces; I recommend using pink table cloths and pink flowers to make the mom-to-be feel especially girly on this special day. It's important to know that the teacups do not have to match at all, and you can even have some fun by serving alcoholic cocktails in the teacups for those non-pregnant guests.

The planning is done, and now you can have a great party!
