First, the same would apply for installing any hard drive. You must have an available connection (SATA/IDE port and cable, and spare power connector). The motherboard and operating system must be able to read the drive. Most drives out on the market should be ok. Some huge drives may need a configuration change which software tools provided by the hard drive company will have. There must also be a slot in the case to fit the hard drive.
It must be noted that a second hard drive will generate more heat and noise. To install it, will mean you have to open up the case and fit it in yourself. Read the instructions carefully if you do not understand how. Make sure you know what you are doing. Plug the drive in, start the computer. Make sure the bios detects the drive. For IDE drivers, jumpers will need to be set accordingly. Use software to partition and format the drive thereafter and it is ready to use.
