Quality service to customers should be the standard, and it is a standard that can only be envisioned with effective management. In many businesses, there are managers who have worked tirelessly to become a leader in the organization. However, these same managers have not learned what the true meaning of leadership is in their own organization. Being a leader is not having small talk or gossip moments with your staff, as is the case in many organizations and businesses. Being a leader means to be able to separate friendship from leadership and give the employee the training, encouragement, and motivation to provide your customers with the best in customer care. Now, of course, providing the best in customer care takes training, it takes practice, and a willingness to serve regardless of any issues that may arise between staff and customer.
In some fast food restaurants, there have been complaints from customers that the employee at the window or at the counter treated them if they were second rate or they acted as if they did not want to be there. Now, we cannot accept this attitude from those who believe that they deserve to make a living, but don't have the ability to do what is necessary to perform the job. Performance on the job is more than just preparing the order, you want to provide the customer with that feeling of comfort. You want your customer to say, "I like it here, my money is not being wasted at this business. Customers cannot and will not say such a thing if the reception from the clerk is cold or unkind.
But the real problem lies with the management of these individuals. Good management, leads to good customer service. You need to have a manager who cares about the business and the customer. Businesses cannot afford to have a manager who also believes that they deserve to make a living, but are unwilling to do the job necessary to make their salary worthwhile. Managers are the very backbone of leadership. They should lead by example. They should not become an example of an organization or business that is ineffective. As customers, we want to see leadership that works.
One of the greatest forms of management that a manager can display is the democratic form of management style, in which the manager works with the team of employees to make sound decisions that positively affect the organization and the customer. The manager provides the employee with the opportunity to lend their voice to issues and the decision making process. When a manager can provide an employee with this type of encouragement and motivation, then they are, in essence, producing an employee that cares about themselves, the business, and yes, you and I, the customer.
Therefore, in order to provide quality service to customers, make sure the standard is first about quality management, and there will be a difference in how the customer relate to your business and how you relate to the customer, as well as, each of the staff members within the business or organization.
