How to wear a mini skirt

You can wear a mini skirt any way you choose, but if you want to wear one and look tasteful then there are several things that you need to consider. Firstly you need to select the right type for your figure and lifestyle needs. Then consider things like; fabric, what clothing and accessories to pair with your mini and when and where it is appropriate to wear one.

-The right mini skirt for you-

Mini skirts come in several different shapes and styles so make sure you select one that will flatter your body type. A line styles suit most figure types, but women who are smaller on the bottom half can get away with straight versions and women with boyish figures can wear ruffled, detailed styles.

In judging what mini skirt would suit you, you also need to consider what your lifestyle is like. If you are active or bending over to pick children up, then a short tight style isn't going to be suitable. You would be better off with an A line style that has a little stretch and is no higher then 20cm above the knee. However, if you want to look sexy for an evening out sipping cocktails and don't intend to bend over, you may be able to get away with a fitted, sexy number.

-Fabric-

The fabrication of a mini skirt is a real deal maker or breaker when it comes to appearance. Avoid plastic looking styles because they have a street walker vibe and be cautious with leather styles. Denim, chino or cord styles are much more understated. Anything shiny or sequined should be an obvious no go unless you are a showgirl.

-What clothing to pair with a mini

It's not just the mini skirt that you select that dictates whether you will look stylish or not. A lot of this success rests with the clothing you pair with it. If you are wearing a short skirt you are choosing to draw attention to your legs, so in keeping with the legs or chest rule, keep your top sedate.

-Accessorizing-

Accessories can also make or break this look. Don't wear heels higher then two inches if you are wearing a short skirt. As tempting as it may be to increase the length of your legs, this can quite easily look trashy. Instead wear minis with ballet flats, flat slides, boots and wedges with a small rise. If you are going to wear your mini skirt with knee high boots, it looks classy if you pair them with opaque stockings. If you'd like a little coverage with other shoes like ballet flats; footless tights look good paired with minis. Don't wear mini skirts with fishnet stockings if you want to look stylish.

-Pick your wear times wisely-

Mini skirts can be suitable for a night out or a day at the beach, but they do not set the right tone at a wedding, christening, meeting the parents, or work.

Finally it should go without saying, but make sure you wear a brief under your mini skirt. If it is form fitting wear a laser cut brief. You don't want to end up photographed like some of the drunken celebrities in Hollywood, who have exposed far more then intended!
