My heart pounds
My pulse beats
Hear the street sounds
Give me my 9 o'clock treat
I search the land
To find a helping hand
Find a fix tonight
Drop out of sight
It's calm now
For a little while
Till the voice returns
Saying find it now
Whatever I do
It's not enough
Next time
I'll buy twice as much
Whether powder, rock or brick
It's never enough to make it stick
Day after day, year after year

It works not now nor ever before
I'll do damn near anything to score
Steal from a friend or rob a store
The end comes quickly
Though it took years
Pulsing through my veins
With nothing to fear
I once had a life
Once felt love
That led to strife
Maybe the answer lies above
