Poetry: AIDS

Within her chest

Lies a heart in pain.

No ability to scream

No one to blame

The shame is hers

To bear alone

The disease has ravaged

Her flesh to bone

Just one mistake

Will cost her life

Leaving her children alone

Her husband absent his wife

If she could go back

Just once more

She would not knock

On fates door

She'd walk away

Her head held high

She'd ignore the temptation

The price wasn't worth it to die

Where's the devil

When you need him most

She's ready to deal her soul

For a chance to coast

Back into her life

Giving her children

What they desire most

Oh how her body hurts now

The pain of remorse

To great to debate

The time has come

To give in to her fate

But how can she just

Lie here and die

Her children stand gently

Weeping by her side

Hold On Mom

They vehemently cry

We still need you now

Please oh please don't die

She struggles within

Gathers all her might

She can do this

She can fight

She can beat this

Horrible disease

Give her children back

The mom they need

It was one mistake

So long ago

A simple one night stand

Protection a no go

She has paid her dues

And suffered well

Does she really deserve

This living hell?

She's never quit

Never given up

A fighter she is

And fight she must

But her body is weak

Her strength is gone

It's all she has left

To lift her arm

She moves her arm

The children draw near

They bend in to hear her whispers

In their ear

I love you all..

You are my world

But the time has come

for me to go

I can't fight anymore

My will is old

The disease has won

The battle is done

As their tears drip down

To caress her face

She closes her eyes

Gives up the chase

The time has come

To pay her sins

She didn't want

The devil to win

She asked the Lord

Protect my loves

Forgive my sins

and she rose above

To lie in His arms

As her loves gently wept

Her pain now gone

Her body at rest

Her struggle was fierce

The battle well fought

But in the end

AIDS won, she lost.
