Okay, you're on holiday after almost a full year of the mind-numbing, day-to-day grind of what you call (in public, anyway) work. Where you stay and what you do would depend greatly on where you're vacationing, of course. Here are a couple of my favorite relaxation spots.
First up is Disney World. My wife and I went here for our honeymoon, and let me tell you, we had the time of our life. We stayed at the Port Orleans Resort, which is a mid-level resort, nestled in among the trees along the lazy Sassagoula River.
It is divided into two sections, Riverside
and French Quarter. Like all Disney World Resort hotels, every effort has been made to complete the resort theme. Port Orleans' theme is a bayou town, complete with riverboat, mansion by the river, and the French Quarter in New Orleans.
A pleasant trip via the river boat takes you to Downtown Disney, where you can catch dinner at any of the many fine restaurants including Fulton's Crab House and Wolfgang Puck's, do some serious souvenir shopping, or just people watch.
We got the "all inclusive" package through AAA that includes meals, tips, and gratuities. Let me break it down for you here: each day you have 3 meals. Each meal comes with: drink, appetizer, soup or salad, main course, and dessert. That's five courses! Since everything was paid for in the package, you don't pay one cent for your main meals. Alcohol is NOT included in the package; you have to purchase that yourself, along with any mid-day snacks.
We went to Fulton's Crab House our first night. We had coffee, an appetizer each, Lobster Bisque, Alaskan King Crab Claws, and a really sinful chocolate cake. It would have cost us about $150, not including tips, if we were to get that meal at a comparable restaurant. We paid NOTHING, and ate like royalty for six days.
Yellowstone National Park
is a wonderful place to relax and get away from it all. I worked there one summer; in-fact, that's where I met my wife. We both worked at Lake Yellowstone Hotel, which is about 8,000 feet up. There are no cell phone towers, no TV antennas, no radio towers.just peace and quiet. Apart from the tourists, that is.
If you can afford it, and you booked far enough in advance, I would recommend staying at one of the hotels or campgrounds in the park. Failing that, West Yellowstone, Montana and Gardiner, Montana are at the West and North entrances to the park, respectively, and both towns have a few hotels for your vacation. If all else fails, Bozeman, Montana, Cody, Wyoming,
