Google's Reader, now reworked and retooled for the end user's pleasure and interoperability by putting all your favorite blog feeds in one place to peruse at your leisure. This is what Google Reader is attempting to become through constant server side tweaks in the hope of improving your over all experience with it. Not unlike many other feed readers, it offers that one space one point for reference and a world of information.
Overall Google Reader is a solid program to set a one spot place for information attainment, and enabling you to share what you enjoyed with the world at large using easy to setup widgets with limitted color schemes and an amount of shares from five to 10 shares while allowing you to also offer the sources of these same links for further reference to whomever see's the shared items on your many blogs or linked sites.
To use google reader works well for those just looking for an easy way, with pre assigned templates to catch up on your favorite blogs and sites, while not as customizeable as it should be it most certainly does offer ease of setup. With many of the Browsers such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera and others there is usually an easy click icon to setup items to be added to Google Reader. The other thing is in order to use this great tool that Google Offers, you do need to setup a Gmail account, which is not so bad with the massive amount of memory avalable and totally free besides the Advertisements usually seen at the top but nothing to excessive like some of the other free tools offer up. It is not so intrusive which gives you a cleaner interface and with that account access to an immense amount of services all connected to that one Id, making it a very easy transition from whatever mail you may use now as it also offers an import option to add what you had before back.
So if I was going to give it a rating between 1 & 5 I would give it about a 4, due to the fact that there are additional steps necessary to set it up, and the lack of custmizeability for the power user. Even the end user for that matter, certainly you can use themes but really there should be more options to explore to make it the best for your type of reading. Whether it be for multiple branched areas or everything in one pltha isable to be sorted out and tagged for your convenience. In making that change along with enabling further ability to customize to your needs would bring Google Reader to the top of the rating table.
